A cross-section describes dimensions of a member in its section. It is often referred to as a "section", especially in steel construction. When creating a cross-section, all the properties necessary for a structural analysis are defined: surface, moment of intertia, section modulus.
A distinction is made between various cross‑section types, such as rolled section, rectangular cross-section, and composite cross-section.
A cross-section has to be assigned to each member in RFEM and RSTAB. Many cross-sections are stored in a cross-section library where they can be selected.
