Linearity

The concept of linearity is based on a general linear function between real  values of two physical quantities. They are used to describe a structural component or a physical relation of an input value "x" and an output value "y". If these values are sufficient for an equation, it is referred to as a linear component or a linear relation.

If such a relation is displayed in a rectangular coordinate system with uniform distances on both axes, the relation is displayed as a straight line.
