Shell

A shell represents a single-curved or double-curved surface.

In RFEM, there are the following possibilities for modeling, for example:

  • Quadrangle Surface
  • Rotated Surface
  • Pipe
  • NURBS surface
  • Spline surface

Shells are stressed by bending and membrane forces. If the thickness of a shell is small in comparison with its span, the load is usually transferred by membrane forces.

Tip

As described in FAQ 002727, the modeling using quadrangle surfaces is preferred in the case of complex models.
