What is a structural model?

The structural model serves as the idealization of an original physical 3D architectural model with the object and purpose to ensure the structural design of a structure, including its structural safety and stability.

It is modeled in the form of one-dimensional (members), two-dimensional (surfaces), or three-dimensional (solids) structural components.

Furthermore, the structural model is characterized by supports (single supports, line supports, surface supports) used for load transfer.

Simple examples of a structural analysis model are:

  • Single-span beam
  • Continuous beam
  • Cantilever
