Plate Structure

A plate structure denotes thin, planar supporting elements with side lengths that are significantly greater than the thickness of the supporting structure.

Classification

In the case of plate structures, a distinction is made between planar and spatial structures.

Examples of planar plate structures:

  • Walls (tangential loading)
  • Slabs (orthogonal loading)

Examples of spatial plate structures:

  • Folded structures (loading in both directions)
  • Shells (loading in both directions)
