Since a spatial model can only be displayed in two dimensions, problems may arise when setting the objects graphically. Using a work plane, you can define a coordinate that is always "fixed".
A work plane is usually parallel to one of the global planes XY, YZ, or XZ, which are defined by two axes of the global coordinate system. However, you can also arrange the work plane as a plane in any inclination or align it with a line, member, or surface axis.
From left to right, the buttons shown in the image mean:
- Open the dialog box Work Plane and Grid/Snap
- Graphical selection of the work plane origin
- Parallel setting of the work plane to the XY plane
- Parallel setting of the work plane to the YZ plane
- Parallel setting of the work plane to the XZ plane
