RWIND 2 - Calculating Wind Loads with CFD Simulation (USA)

Validating CFD simulations with experimental data enhances accuracy by comparing simulation outcomes with real-world conditions. This process identifies discrepancies, allowing adjustments to enhance model reliability. Ultimately, it builds confidence in the simulation's ability to predict wind load scenarios.

Turbulence modeling in CFD, using URANS and DDES models, is essential for accurately simulating wind-structure interactions. URANS balances cost and unsteady flow capture, while DDES provides greater accuracy in complex flows at a higher computational cost.

When wind-induced surface pressures on a building are available, they can be applied on a structural model in RFEM 6, processed by RWIND 2, and used as wind loads for static analysis in RFEM 6.

In RFEM and RSTAB, you can visualize the flow field quantities of pressure, velocity, turbulence kinetic energy, and turbulence dissipation rate for the wind simulation.

The clipping planes are aligned with the respective wind direction.

If you have experimentally determined surface pressures available for a model, you can apply them to a structural model in RFEM 6, process them in RWIND 2, and use them as wind loads in the structural analysis of RFEM 6.

• Surface pressure
• Surface cp coefficient
• Wall distance y+ (steady flow)
