Rectangular Steel Tank

Rectangular steel and stainless-steel industrial tanks of various sizes were designed for an industrial plant. They have different support types, including existing steel structures, concrete slabs on mezzanines, and foundation slabs for the plant. These factors were carefully considered during the design phase to meet the various requirements.

Dlubal customer TIM Global Engineering carried out the structural design for several rectangular welded tanks made of stainless steel and carbon steel. The tanks vary in size and volume, are located in an industrial plant, and are used in various industrial processes.

A geometric and material nonlinear analysis using imperfections (GMNIA) was used for the design. The rules for load combinations, the material models for carbon and stainless steel, and the design rules are based on the Eurocode.

For structures located in a seismic zone, dynamic analyses were carried out for the tanks. For the tanks supported by a steel structure, the supporting structure was also modeled. This way, it was possible to consider realistic behavior of the supports. The existing structure was modeled using 1D finite elements (beams), while the tanks themselves were modeled using 2D finite elements (plates).
