Structure of CITES Rescue Center Pavilion in Tábor Zoo

In June 2024, the pavilion of the CITES Rescue Center opened in the Tábor Zoo (Czech Republic) to provide sanctuary for wild animals rescued from abuse in private ownership. This pavilion is the first of its kind in the Czech Republic to achieve such high quality.

The company Carl Stahl supplied the structural design solution for the project using our RFEM 6 software together with the add-ons Form-Finding and Steel Design.

About Project

The company Carl Stahl provided the structural engineering solution for the project, the production documentation of the steel structures, and the black X-TEND® stainless-steel nets. Inspired by foreign buildings in renowned zoos, the Tábor Zoo wanted to create a modern and functional pavilion, providing maximum comfort for the animals.

The rescue center includes two large enclosures with an area of 500 m² (5,382 ft²), which contain the elements necessary for a comfortable animal life, such as roofed shelters, two water tanks, and a mound for elevated views.

The choice of black stainless steel mesh has contributed to the undisturbed and modern look of the building, which allows visitors to watch the animals without distractions.

Structural Design

For the structural design of the pavilion, the RFEM 6 software was used in conjunction with the Steel Design and Form-Finding add-ons. The design included the structural steel design, including the X-TEND® stainless-steel nets and stainless-steel cables. Concrete foundation structures including micropiles were also designed.

The design was carried out in an all-in-one style, which allows for simulating the real behavior of the structure while saving time when transferring models between different software.
