I am designing an asymmetric cross-section and I got the message: "Non-Designable: ER051 Moment about z-axis on asymmetric cross-section, taper, or set of members". Why?
Answer:
The reason for this warning is that asymmetric cross-sections cannot be designed using the methods mentioned in 6.3.3 of EN 1993‑1‑1 or General Method according to 6.3.4 of EN 1993‑1‑1.
However, the stability analysis can be performed according to the second-order analysis as cross-section design. This is possible with the add-on modules FE‑LTB or STEEL Warping Torsion.
