Question
When calculating deformations in RF‑CONCRETE Members, I see inconsistencies in the deflection diagram. Why?
Answer:
In RF‑CONCRETE Members, the deformation in the cracked state is determined using a coefficient "ζ" (according to EN 1992‑1‑1, 7.4.3 with similar concepts applied to the ACI 318 and CSA A23.3 standards). For this simplified method, the coefficient ζ is only determined once per member and the linear deformation is scaled up according to the governing location in the member.
In this context, it is possible to determine different coefficients ζ for each member. When scaling the linear deformation, sudden drops occur between the individual members.
To avoid this effect, we recommend using sets of members.

When calculating a surface model, the internal forces are determined separately for each finite element. Since the element-by-element results usually represent a discontinuous distribution, RFEM performs smoothing of the internal forces that takes into account the influence of adjacent elements. The discontinuous distribution of internal forces is adjusted with this method. The result evaluation is thus clearer and easier.

When evaluating line support forces, implausible diagrams sometimes arise at first glance. In particular, for variable loads at locations that also have a nodal support, at division points and edge locations of supported lines, the results sometimes show unexpected support reactions. Using the function of the linear smooth distribution in Project Navigator – Display does not always lead to the expected result diagram.

When introducing and transferring horizontal loads such as wind or seismic loads, increasing difficulties arise in 3D models. To avoid such issues, some standards (for example, ASCE 7, NBC) require the simplification of the model using diaphragms that distribute the horizontal loads to structural components transferring loads, but cannot transfer bending themselves (called "Diaphragm").

The calculation of structures based on digital twins is becoming an everyday task in the engineering office. If a digital building model already exists, you want to continue to use the information contained in it as seamlessly as possible. This states extensive requirements with regard to modeling and interfaces for BIM-compatible structural analysis software.

With the Camera Fly Mode view option, you can fly through your RFEM and RSTAB structure. Control the direction and speed of the flight with your keyboard. Additionally, you can save the flight through your structure as a video.

The result tables show in color whether the internal forces are positive or negative, as well as showing the relation to the extreme values. The result tables of the design modules use color scales to represent the respective design ratios. This way, the governing locations are apparent immediately.
