Different Restraining Moments Due to Shear Stiffness

I have performed a comparative calculation of a single-nave frame with rigid support nodes. The restraining moments of the frame posts are significantly lower than in the structural analysis of the installer or a manual calculation using frame formulas. Is there any explanation for this?


Answer:

In the manual calculation, you are probably assuming that the shear stiffness G·A approaches infinity.

The reason for the deviating distribution of internal forces and deformations is usually the consideration of the member shear stiffnesses, which is activated by default in RFEM/RSTAB. This option can be deselected in the "Calculation Parameters" dialog box, if required.
