The mesh refinements were adapted with each new version. Currently, they are adjusted to the geometry: if, for example, you have angular base geometry, the refinement is applied angularly. On the other hand, if there is circular base geometry, the refinement is also oriented radially.
In order to radially mesh a partial area in angular base geometry, you can insert a circular opening into the surface and close it again with a circular surface of the original thickness (see the image).
