Plate girders are an economical choice for long-span construction. These I-section steel plate girders feature deep webs to maximize shear capacity and thin webs to minimize self-weight. However, due to their large height-to-thickness (h/tw) ratio, transverse stiffeners may be necessary to stiffen the slender web.

In RFEM 6, the Member Transverse Stiffeners option allows you to add required stiffeners along the member length, enhancing shear strength, which can be accounted for in the Steel Design add-on.
