Results by Story

The results for each story are displayed in the tables as Results by Story under "Static Analysis" (or "Spectral Analysis" in the case of a dynamic analysis).

The following tables are available:

  • Story Actions
  • Interstory Drifts
  • Centers of Mass and Rigidity
  • Forces in Shear Walls
  • Forces in Spandrels (for discontinuous walls)

The results of the tables are explained using the Building model example in the chapter Results in Sections.

Story Actions

Apart from minor numerical deviations in this model, the resulting story force in the individual stories is easy to follow.

  • Floor 3: 80 kN
  • Floor 2: 120 kN
  • Floor 1: 140 kN
  • Floor 0: 150 kN

As a result, a total of 150 kN is transferred through the building in the X direction. Due to the symmetry of the building, the center of gravity of each story or the position of the resulting story forces is exactly in the center of the building.

Interstory Drifts

The "Interstory Drifts" table shows the displacements of the individual stories. The values are not necessarily based on a specific point, such as center of mass; they are rather the average value of the floor displacements.

Info

The technical article Evaluation of Story Drift Under Seismic Loads describes in detail how to determine story drifts under dynamic loading according to the US standard ASCE 7‑22.

Centers of Mass and Rigidity

The "Centers of Mass and Rigidity" table lists the masses of each story. Furthermore, the summarized masses including the center of mass are displayed.
