Slendernesses

The result table for slenderness check can be displayed for members or member sets according to the designed objects.

Some design standards recommend to satisfy the limit slenderness regardless of the design ratio of the stability analysis. By default, the result tables of slenderness are deactivated, but you can activate them in the Result Table Manager (the Result Table Manager button in the result tables).

The slenderness for flexural buckling is calculated from the ratio of the radius of gyration to the effective length. In the calculation, the defined effective lengths are taken into account, if assigned to an object. If there is no effective length assigned to an object, a message is displayed in the comment column and the slenderness is calculated with the member length.

The slenderness values are compared to the limit values from the Global Settings. If the slenderness is greater than the limit value used for the loading, it is highlighted in red.

Important

The slenderness check is not a design in the proper sense, because the buckling resistance is designed in the stability analysis.

Thus, the slenderness checks are not part of the Design Ratios on Members result table and are not displayed in the Overview table of design checks even if the limit value is not satisfied,
