´1. Who are you?
My name is Kamil Kozdroń, and I’m mainly a development manager at the Polish branch of Dlubal Software.
2. What studies did you do, and how did you come to Dlubal?
I studied civil (structural) engineering at the Silesian University of Technology, in the South of Poland. I’m still associated with this university, through an open doctoral procedure and my friendship with several people working there.
I came to Dlubal on the recommendation of my friend. This recommendation went to Aleksandra Kociołek who called me and invited for an interview, almost… 7 years ago! And here I am. 😊
3. What are your tasks?
At Dlubal Software, I’m responsible for the customer support coordination, analysis of (mostly) more complex problems, representing the company at various conferences all over the country and some marketing aspects.
4. What is important in your job?
The most important thing is to keep being focused on the local market's needs and our customers' opinion, to provide the best possible level of services and to help our development team to keep improving our programs.
5. What are you looking forward when you come into work in the morning?
The first thing I look forward to is to meet my colleagues – I really love to work with people of this team! 😊 Second of all, an equally important aspect is to experience new, interesting problems reporting from the market.
6. What do you like about construction?
Thanks to our software, we can optimize various types of structures more than ever before. This opportunity – searching for the new ways of modelling and designing civil engineering structures – is very attractive.
7. What has been the best experience so far?
I guess that each meeting with designers of many different types of industry, especially these face-to-face ones – at the conferences, is a great experience every single time.
8. What is your hobby? How do you combine it with your job?
I like searching for new opportunities to develop myself all the time. I also run my small business, associated with civil engineering as well, what helps me better understand various problems that we have to face as customer support engineers. From totally other aspects: I like swimming and cycling. It helps me stay in shape. And different types of social meetings, of course!
9. What advice would you give to young civil engineers and graduates for the future?
I would encourage them to start learning advanced tools as soon as possible, of course, if they want to become good designers. We also have to remember that – after these studies – there are different types of further career. It’s very good to combine structural aspects of engineering with IT issues and management knowledge. That may make them very valuable employees or even business leaders, finally.
10. What is your favourite building?
Hahah, I will not be original here. I like tall buildings and impressive bridges. In the first case – there will be no surprise – it’s Burj Khalifa in Dubai.
Speaking about the bridges: Millau Viaduct ranks at the top of my top list. 😊 However, in Poland we also can indicate a few very interesting objects, like a very modern Musem of the Second World War in Gdańsk – my beloving city, or skyscrapers KTW and KTW II in Katowice – my home city. Katowice is the Dlubal base in Poland as well, by the way. 😊
