🌟 Customer Project Spotlight: Courtyard Roofing of SMS Campus in Mönchengladbach, Germany 🌟

📢 We are thrilled to showcase the stunning courtyard roofing project at the SMS Campus in Mönchengladbach, Germany, completed in May 2024. With all SMS Group locations now unified, the campus features five office modules forming a cog wheel structure.

🏢 Project Highlights:

▫️ Impressive Span: A foil-cushioned roof with a diameter of 82 m (269 ft) spans the inner
courtyard, reaching a height of 20 m (65.6 ft).

▫️ Vast Coverage: The roof covers an area of 5,100 m² (54,896 ft²), ensuring a dry environment for over 2,000 employees moving between buildings.

🔧 Engineering Excellence by formTL:

Dlubal customer formTL was responsible for the technical processing and structural design of this innovative roof structure. Key features include:

▫️ Tension Cable Structure: Designed according to the Geiger-dome principle, with a compression ring supported by a circumferential steel box girder and 40 under-tensioned radial cables with a double set of cables.

▫️ Advanced Components: Development of cable nodes, ETFE cushion elevations, steel box girder, and cable web connections to the compression ring.

▫️ Secure Support System: Floating support on solid module buildings, with fixed support on one side, radially displaceable support on the opposite side, and eight additional friction supports.

formTL’s expertise, combined with the powerful capabilities of RFEM, resulted in an exemplary structural design that highlights the potential of modern engineering solutions.
