🌟 Shading Roof: Porta Genova Station, Milan 🇮🇹
We are excited to share this final project from the Building Systems Engineering degree course at Politecnico di Milano! 🎓
This preliminary design focuses on the renovation of the iconic Porta Genova Railway Station in Milan, Italy. The project, developed under the guidance of Prof. Ruta for the "Integrated Building Design" course, involves a shading roof solution aimed at enhancing the station's sustainability and user comfort.
In particular, our efforts were directed towards the technological and structural design of the shading roof depicted in the photographs. We successfully integrated parametric design using Rhino Grasshopper software, which was then rapidly and efficiently translated into the structural design through seamless integration with Dlubal RFEM 6. This allowed for precise modeling and efficient structural analysis.
The design of steel tubular elements was carried out using the "Steel Design" add-on, ensuring optimal performance and safety. Load modeling was facilitated by utilizing load transfer surfaces, a key feature that proved highly beneficial due to the expansive surface area of the structure.
Finally, we extracted the constrained ground reactions to proceed with the joint sizing, ensuring the stability and functionality of the entire system.
Swipe to explore the concept and vision of this incredible renovation project!
