Material Models

Soil is a multiphase system consisting of grain, water, and air, which exhibits a highly nonlinear material behavior.
For the finite element analysis of soil, special material models are used that mathematically represent its natural behavior. It is essential that they can meaningfully reflect precisely those properties that are relevant to the problem that needs to be solved.

The following two material models are currently available in the Geotechnical Analysis add-on in RFEM 6.

  • Mohr-Coulomb Model
  • Nonlinear Elastic Model
  • Modified Hardening Soil Model
  • Hoek-Brown Model
