Influence of "Permanent/Imposed" Action Category on Design

What effect on the design does the classification of loads into the action category Gq Permanent/Imposed (1.C) have?

Answer:

The "Permanent/Imposed" action category was created as a result of customer requirements. It is not part of EN 1990.

This allows you to consider permanent live loads, such as floor structure or similar, with the partial safety factor 1.35 instead of 1.5.

All combinations are generated once without this "Permanent/Imposed" load case and once with this load case.

Example

  • LC1 → Permanent
  • LC2 → Permanent/Imposed
  • LC3 → Imposed Load 1
  • LC4 → Imposed Load 2

Result

CO1 → 1.35*LC1
CO2 → 1.35*LC1 + 1.35*LC2
CO3 → 1.35*LC1 + 1.5*LC3
CO4 → 1.35*LC1 + 1.5*LC3 + 1.5*LC4
CO5 → 1.35*LC1 + 1.5*LC4
CO6 → 1.35*LC1 + 1.35*LC2 + 1.5*LC3
CO7 → 1.35*LC1 + 1.35*LC2 + 1.5*LC3 + 1.5*LC4
CO8 → 1.35*LC1 + 1.35*LC2 + 1.5*LC4
