🔩 Bolted Extended Stiffened End-Plate Connection: Impact of Stiffener Thickness

👉 Let's compare how different configurations of additional stiffening affect such a connection in hashtag #DlubalSoftware. The first variant is an end-plate without stiffening. Other variants differ in the chosen stiffener thickness. The impact on moment resistance, initial rotational stiffness, and the effect of this stiffness on the horizontal deflection of a multi-story building is examined.

📊 From the comparison of moment resistances, it is evident that the added stiffener increased resistance, in the example by 12% to 33%, depending on the chosen thickness. Interestingly, stiffeners thicker than 20 mm do not further increase moment resistance. This is because the weakest part in the connection becomes the beam, as shown in the plastic strain distribution.

📊 The effect on the initial bending stiffness is also noticeable. However, all variants, especially those with stiffeners, are relatively close to rigid classification, so the impact on the horizontal deformation of the multi-story building is not as significant.
