This chapter shows you how to create basic design specifications for the ultimate limit state and the serviceability limit state. Design by member is described. In the context of the ultimate limit state design, a distinction is made between the equivalent member method, which requires the definition of effective lengths, and the general method for a stability analysis according to EN 1993‑1‑1, which requires boundary conditions.
